Sir.—As an attempt is being made in certain quarters to create jealousy between the PpJiiatua settlement- and others nearer Masterton, it would be as well to'point oqt that thefact of Pahiatua. getting a telegraph afation is a pretty faii' indication that many years must elapse before through communication will be established betweeji Masterton and Woodville. It is thoroughly understood that the telegraph will Mow the railway, and a promise has already been given to Dreyertown that as. soon as the railway is opened a telegraph office will b,e oj),eflet| in that township. top will he within 'six or seven miles of telegraph communication, when the Kopnaranga railway section is opened. For obvious reasons telegraph lines must, when practicable, be constructed along the Ijjie of railway, and a tremendous expentlityre of public money puld be riecessarj' tp construct a telegraph lirjg frpm Dreyertown to Pahiatya tnrqygh such heavy bugh. This outlay wQiild be absolutely thrown away, as the line would almost immediately have to be reconstructed along the railway line, Telegraph or telephone communication with Dreyertown, Mauriceville and Eketahuna is no doubt very desirable, but until the Government can be compelled to push on the railway there is 110 hope of getting it. lam, etc., Practical,
