June 7. The death is announced, at the asje of 80 years, of Sir 'Julius Benedict, the eminent musical composer. Constantinople, June G. News to hand from tho Island of Crete states that serious disturbances have recently token place among the populace. . Further details to hand with regard to the disturbance at Crete, show that a number of Cretan deputies boarded a steamer which was bringing Savas Pasha, 1 the new Governor, and attempted to prevent his landing, declaring that he had been appointed contrary to the wishes of the Cretan people.

The police have received important information relating to the Simpson's Rank robbery, and it is rumoured that five men have been arrested in connection with the affair. Sydney, June 7.
