Heuter's Telegramb. Sydney, June 1. The drought still continues, and there is no sign of rain. Great inconvenience is being experienced in the city and country for want of water.

Melbourne, June 2. The total number of entries for the Melbourne Cup is 164. The following entries were received yesterday:—Caulfield cup, 142; Caulfield guineas, 94; Champion race 64, and Maribynong Plate 124. Sydney, June 2. The total number of entries received for the Metropolitan Handicap is 83, and for the Hawkesbury Handicap 109. Sir Henry Loch, Governor of Victoria, and Lady Loch, are at present in this city, on a visit to His Excellency Lord Loftus.

Brisbane, June 2. The determination of the Government to return all Island labourers serving in Queensland, to their homes, has caused great dissatisfaction among sugar growers, and some planters are resisting the return! Tho Government, however, maintain a firm attitude on the question, Paris, June 2nd. Tho state funeral of Victor Hugo took place to-day, when tho remains were conveyed to theif final resting place in the Pantheon. The proceedings were qf a most imposing character, and witnessed by an enormous crowd, who thronged the street along the route. Several communists who were carrying red flags, in contravention of a recent decree, were arrested on starting, but in other respects the proceedings were orderly.
