LANDS BOARD.
(Prom the Evening Press.) • A meeting of the Lands Board was held yestorday morning. PresentMessrs J. W. A, Marchant, Commisioner (in the chair), H. Bunny, W. H. Fitzherbert, W. W. McCardle, 6. Beetham, and T. Mason. After routine business, the Chairman announced that no lands had been leased or sold slnoe last moeting, The tenders for leasehold land were then opened, but the declaration of the succesful tenderers was adjourned to allow of the deposits being verified, &c., until noon. Brandon wa? read, complaining of the neglected ! state of t}ie main road passing through tho Wangaefy Valley. It was decided to inform him that' the matter would bo' at-
tended to as soon as the Board obtained a vote from Government,' The Ranger's report showed that 53 deferred payment sections hacl beenexamined, and on five the necessary impafcments hadnotbeencarriedout. OnMrMCardle's motion, it was resolved that the names of the defaulting holders of such sections should not be published. Of the five, two showed extenuating circumstances; the others will be called npon to show cause why their leases should not be cancelled. It was announced that Mr Robinson had resigned his position as Crown lands Ranger. A motion was passed expressing the regret of the Board t athe loss of his services. ' MrMunro applied to capitalise his., unpaid instalments. Leave was granted^' It was resolved to throw open &J.selectiou certain lands in the neighborhood of Alfredton, on the application of the settlers there. .- ■ ■ • ' Mr Amelius Smith wrote thanking the Board for their letter expressing their appreciation of his services. In the case of Mr Corbett, adjourned from last meeting, the Chairman stated that there were other similar cases in the district, where the settlers had paid off their instalments without capitalising, If they granted Mi 1 Corbett's apptfhtion, they would have to grant the othMi It was moved by Mr Beetham that the excess of payment be refunded by Government to Mr Corbett. Mr Marchant opposed the motion. ,Mr McCardle would oppose unless it was made to include all settlers in similar circumstances. Finally the matter was adjourned till next meeting,
