HOLIDAY TRAIN ARRANGEMENTS.
Tiie arrangements which were made for the running of trains on the Wei lington-Masterton line for the Queen's Birthday, deserve more than a passing notice, because the public lmd ample reason for grumbling at them. The advertisements in all newspapers read. "Saturday return tickets will be issued, available for the return journey up to the evening of Tuesday, the 26th," Now, any sane man, other than a railway official, would conclude from this that any ticket issued on Saturday last would hold good until this evening, and we know for a fact that a large number of return tickets were obtained un the strength of the wording of the paragraph we have quoted. It was only by a chance that the subject was elucidated, The ticket clerk at the Masterten station was asked the question point blank, and it was then explained that the particular ticket was called the" Saturday return ticket," no matter on what day it was issued, and that in the present instance it was meant to apply to tickets issued on Monday, Tickets issued on Saturday being good till Monday only. Excursionists will do well to note that under certain circumstances it is possible to obtain Saturday tickets on any day in the week. The Hibernianism is obvious, Another cause of complaint is to be found in the fact that the appeared neither in the advertisements nor in tho posters that were issued. In Wellington this mistake was remedied at the eleventh morning —by the issue of handbills, but the Wairarapa public was permitted to take its chance of finding its way to the stations at the proper time, It U only due to the stationomsters and guards to say that very fair time was kept; but it would bB untrue to say that the drivers took care of the bones of the passengers, The jerky starts of the last up-train yesterday were sufficient to test the nerves and patience of everyone, several passengers being actually thrown off their seats by them,
