CASTLEPOINT ROAD BOARD.

The annual meeting of the Board which was adjourned from the 2nd inst., was held on the 9th.' Present—Messrs Mackay (chairman), Harvey, Meredith; Langdon and Bellis. . The minutes of the previous meeting, were read-and confirmed. The Treasurer reported a'balance in -thebank of £474 10s fid;; and-balance available for future expenditure £143 8s sd. The action of the members present on the 2nd. inst. in passing accounts for payment amounting to L2? 2s 2d was duly confirmed. The Overseer's report on the progress of works was read and dealt with; Correspondence was read from Wairarapa East County Council with account for surveys completed. From same requesting to be furnished with a list of persons owning property, whose names are not on the County Electoral Roll, -'.'•■-- ;.- Prom Commissioner of Property Tax re: inspection of rolls by applicants' for the office of assessors.' From Mr Hawkins with a request that the new line of road at Adam's Peak be laid off at once.. Prom Mr W. Andrew,.re rope and cradle used at Manawa crossing. Resolved.—That the grant for repairs to Manawa road be supplemented by a sum of 30s. That a sum of £5 be granted to repair the Pakowai road, and that Mr Sheath be asked to expend same, That the question of extending the metal at the Tinui Hotel be deferred. That an extension of time be granted to Mr Henderson, as recommended by the overseer, to complete the metalling contract. That the Board allow the overseer all his ferry expenses in connection with the Board duties. That the Property Tax Commissioner's request be granted, That an exchange of cheques between this Board and the County Council in settlement of accounts be agreed to, as suggested by the County Clerk. That Mr W. Andrew be' informed that this Board is prepared to dispose of the wire rope and cradle at Manawa bridge. it was proposed—That the question of providing a sum of £BO to purchase the interest of Messrs Elder ■& Co. in the Black Hill track stand over until the annual meeting of ratepayers. Proposed as an amendment to the above —That the question of payment for the Black Hill track be decided at once, and that the amount be paid out of the ordinary revenue and charged to the Wards as follows :-Nos 1, 2, and 5, £lO each; Nos. 3,6, and 7 £ls each; and No. 4 £5. Total £BO. The amendment was carried. Resolved.-That this Board take steps to comply with Mr Hawkins' request, provided the services of tho County Engineer can be obtained. That a sum of £4 be granted to open a quarry on tho Tinui Valley road. That a sum of £35 be granted to supplement the grant for metalling on Tinui Valley road.'

That the Chief Surveyor be again requested to complete the survey of the road at Adams Creek. That the attention of the Waste Lands Board be drawn to the desirability of having the road lilies up the Oahangaand Akiteo Valleys graded, in order that the expenditure on these lines may ultimately benefit the Crown Lands in that locality. Mr J.S.Langdon was again appointed to sign cheques on behalf of the Board. Mr Meredith gave notice that at the next meeting he would move;— That in view of the County having struck a general rate to pay off their liability that at next meeting the Board consider the advisableness of taking over the work of, maintaining the Main and County roads, within the Riding. The next meeting was fixed for Saturday the 30th inst.
