THE WAIPOUA OVERFLOW.
We are pleased to learn that astion taken by the Wairarapa East County Couneil with regard that vexed question, the Waipoua overflow, is leading to practical results, and in all probability to a apeedy decision as to the nature of the works that ape to be carried out. A deputation consisting of MrMACKAY, Chairman oftheCouncil, and Mr G, Beetium, M.H.H. for the district, waited upon the Hon. E. Richardson, Minister for Public Works, on Thursday, and explained to him the dangers with which the settlers on the Ojiaki were threatened, and the various means f Inch hud jbpen suggested to confine the Waipoua .to a permanent cljannelMr fiicifAßpanif' fjsj;,ene(| "aftentiyejy, Mind then promised that Mr UfrAcpTT, Engineer in Chief, should visit tlje district at an early date, and I'enqrt to him on the matter, . Beetham,hml Mr BiUOTit, the County Engineer. One or two niHiubem of the Public Works staff will, in all probability, also join.
