A long discussion then arose as to ways and means and Cr H. Bunny expressed himself very strongly on the matter, and said that if there ps j'jot anything done at tlje pext meeting of Parliament he should use his utmost endeavors to get the Gqunty system abolished; as, far as the West County is concerned. The Engineer's report was read, re different contracts, and the Engineer was asked whether it was necessary to put in a culvert oyer a creek pn the MarHnborpngjiPahau road, and he replied that it wrs highly neceesaiy on account of the heavy flow of water at times, and also to do something to the Hurunuioranei bridge, as ho found it was necessary. Cr H. R, Bunny moved that the matter stand over, which was allowed.
In. reference to the report from the FeatherstonßoadßoardroMartinboroughPahau road, Or J. Tully stated that the Board did not understand that they were requested to send any written report on the same, It was moved by Or A. Matthews, seconded by Or H. Bunny, that the matter be further raferrecl to the Featherston Eoad Board, It atos moved by Cr H. Bunny, and seconded by Cr A. Matthews, that at the rising of the meeting, the Council adjourn till the second Saturday in August, and in the meantime, if the Chairman thinks it necessary, he may call a meeting, and that the Works Committee act in the Barae manner as at present, The Chairman spoke strongly against the adjournment, in reply to which Cr H. Bunny stated that it was no use to hoodwink the matter, but he requested that the public should know the financial difficulties of the Council, The motion was carried. Some accounts were passed for payment,
and the balance sheet for the past year was taken as laid upon, the :; : The meeting then adjourned, the Chairman suggesting that the Crs should keep a very close look out to sec what the Government intend doing in respect to the County system.
