Auckland, This Day. On the arrival of the City of Sydney this morning, Superintendent Thomson boarded her, and arrested, on extradition warrant, Walter H. Lennox Maxwell, alias Theodore Cecil Danquier, variously described as doctor or officer in the French or Turkish army, on a charge of the murder of Charles E. Garreller of St Louis, Missouri. The accused stated- that t))e affair-is a mistake, and he could explain it in the proper quarter. Nothing was known.of the murder before the steamer left, The accused fr about 30 ygarsold, and of gentlemanly appearance. Accused and the murdered man are both British subject?, Cpnsul Gamble had received a cablegram from the Secretary Of State, and the man was at once known by the complete description furnished.
