HEREFORDS & SHORTHORNS.
Feeling seems to have run very high at Lord Tredegar's Show, which took place about three months ago at Newport, in connection with the award of the champion prizes, which went to Mr Rowley's. Shorthorn bull, Self Esteem 2nd, arid Mr Ackers' -Shorthorn heifer. Western Georgie, the favourites for these honours being Hercfm-da.. ■ The Hereford Times says :-Wo never saw. the Hereford fanners so.exasperated; they shouted that it was an obstinate fight for the breed; and not fair judging'bn the. merits. The toa large; number.of Shorthorn; .breeders who were looking on. . TheHorofdrd. breeders protested that the decision wa»; unjust, and blamed the Herefordshire, judges for having given in over the bull! 'class. Mr Rogers, of The Field, stepped' .forward, and offered' to count the points with' the Shorthorn judges arid the referee,' but they refusod."A Herefordshire farmer then offered to lay: £SOO- to £IOO. on the. result being in favour of the .HereforcVheifenvith afresh lot of judges;''but this was not taken; and thereupon the referee was hootedout of the ring, and the whole show-yard was in a perturbed state for some minutes. Mr Rogers, assisted by Mr Russell, Mr Goode,.and othors, went and measured the points of the animals over which there was a dispute, and were attended by a largo crowd;',; The following was the result:— '
