TARATAHI-CARTERTON ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held at the -Cduncil Chambers on the 25th Messrs B, Boys (chairman) H. Braithwaite, W, Booth, H. R. Bunny, N. Grace, Hi. W. Dorset, YY. Parker, J. Reynolds, and A. Gallon.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and cenfirmed.
The Trearujer reposed ft credit halance Some discussion ensued respecting outatoning rates, ana; Cquncillflfs; : exp,feßßed their opinion tliat jt was not at all a satisfactory ,yay whiob, ratepayers adopted, of allowing their rates to fall so much in arrears, but at the sametlme the Board expressed their entire confidence in the way the Clerk' lias managed to collect the rates. ■ -'' •■' . . : • ■
A letter was read from Mr Rerry asking to beaUdwed to lay a pip'Bfdrain.fvom his place to the road side drain'. 1 ' ■/■ /A letter was also read from Messrs Beard & Gray offering to allow the Board
to widen the Belvidore road by covering in tho drain which is part of their land. It waß resolved to consult the Town Board in the matter. : &; Mr B. P. Perry's 'application ?vas granted. ■ '. Correspondence was read from West County Council re debentures; from same re abolishing the Waiohine toll-gatjj} It was resolved, that the Chairman be empowered to affix the seal of the Board to the agreement between L,Nix and the Board re lease of half an acre of land-for a gravel-pit. .The minutes of a special meeting which was held on the 11th inst. were adopted. It was moved by Mr Booth, That this Board i 3 willing to cancel their claim on behalf of the Waiohine Bridge if the Featherston Koad Board do the same, and that the gate be abolished from and after the Ist of June next. After a great deal of discussion on the motion pro/'a|d con., the resolution was put and declared lost. For, 4; against, 5. From Mr King, re charges for surveying through bush roads. ' ■'- . It was resolved to let the matter stand over for the purpose of ascertaining the charges from the Surveyor-General. Mr Price waited on the Board aajjjg to have the road repaired from his rmff) the station, and ; offered to' givef£lo toward the expense; also, to do' the- work if the Board would allow him his last year's and the present year's rates.. The Warden objected to any money being expended, as they were already in debt. He pointed out that the rqads about his place were a great deal worse, and the ratepayers would object' to'-- the outlay. After a large amount of .discussion'-on the subject it was resolved on the motion of Mr Booth, seconded by Mr Parker, that Mr Price's terms be accepted, and that the Board allow £5 towards the repairs needed, on .condition- that. Mr Price remove his fence to the proper boundary, which was agreed to. .-. 0 ; . It was resolved that the annual meeting of ratepayers be held at the Council ChambtrsonThursday, the7th of May, at 11a.m. The following tenders were accepted:— for falling and clearing 120 chains, Brooklyn road, Jones and Mathews, 12b aer chain; Belvidere road, Stevens, ftfifa per chain; Waterson's line, metallmg, J. Hart, £2l2sGd per chain; Hughes' line, metalling, Waldinaud Read, £ll2a 6dper chain,' Some accounts were then passed for payment, and the meeting tennjnaied.,
