(Reuter's Telegrams—Copyright, )
London, April 22,
Stntements were made last niglit in the House of Lords and House of Commons, by Earl Granville and Mr Gladstone respectively, to the effect that the Government were in receipt of the reply of General Lumsilen to the communication which had been addressed to him, asking for n full account of the recent hostilities near Penj-Deh, but that his account differs very seriously from that supplied to the Russian Government by General IComaroff, Later, From further particulars which have transpired regarding General Liunsden's reply to the British Government, it appears that he places considerable emphasis on the patient bearing of the Afghan troops, and states that the conflict was due to the aggressive action of the Russian commander. Sydney, This Day. The work of fitting out the steam" ship Massilia as an armed cruiser is being proceeded with here, under the supervision of the Imperial naval authorities.
