Tho Board met on the 4tli iiißt., present :—Messrs McCardle, Davie, H. Sedeole, Hall, Avery, and Smith. The minutes of general, and two special ; t meetings were read and confirmed. m, The Treasurer reported a credit balance - of £lllO 17b 3|d. Correspondence.—OutwardsTo the various Road Boards in the Forty Mile Bush, asking them to co-operate in tho Staking over and maintenance of main road through their several districts; to Minister for Public Works, requesting him to bring two acres of land used for gravel pit under operation of Public Works Act; to Commissioner of Crown Lands, asking working plans to be furnished of roads already laid off and to be laid off. Correspondence, i Crown Lands Office stating that they did not-grade -roads, but simply laid them off * therefore.could not supply detail plans.; from Minister Piibiic Works re two acres to be brought under operation of Public Works Act, stating necessary particulars; Fromsattie re taking gravel, from open pits upon side of road. From P. C. Frasi, with plans of special area for rating under It, and B. C. Act. From Mr Rioux, re compensation for gravel taken from his pit. Roferred to the contractor. £ ,Mr Giles declined to carry out his contract at £1 4s per chain, on account of the bad condition of the road, but offered to complet the work at Is 5d per yard, if the Board were willing. The Board agreed to this, The Overseer reperted Nos. 1, 2, and 3 finished, and twenty chains of No. 4, The following accounts were passed for payment Printing and stationery, £3 (is2d; pkns, £4 7s Gd; Board office, progress payment, £25 ; Tiraumea road metalling £l2O lis (id; Wairarapa East County £3 9s. At Inglewood, Victoria, the mayor lias been requested to call a public meeting k for the purposa .of taking steps to change y the name of the countiy from Gladstone to Gordon( An cxperment to prevent business men from evading jury service is now being made in Chicago by taking jurors away from business only half a day at a time. To accomplish this the civil courts confine jury trials to the afternoon, beginning 1 o'clock. A doctor at Indian River, Mich., with a practice of 1200 dollars casli in the last twenty months. The rest lias been taken in orders on stores, saw-mills, lime-kilns, tailors, undertakers, and well-diggers.
