TARATAHI-CARTERTON ROAD BOARD.
The 1 ordinary monthly meeting of the abovo was held at the Council Chambers, Carterton, on Saturday last. PresentsMessrs B. Boys (chairman), W. Booth, W. Parker, N. Grace, H. R. Bunny, E. W, Dorset, J, Reynolds, and A. Gallon. .. The minutes of the previous meeting were road and confirmed.
The Treasurer reported a credit balance at the Bank of £9Ol. Correspondence, inwards, was read from Hawkes Bay County Council re valuation under the Property Tax Act; -from Property Tax Department re valuation of Native Lands; from Wairarapa West County Council re grant forCarter-ton-Gladstone Road; from Survey Department advising the Board in respect to laying off roads. Letters were read from Messrs J. King, and P. Carr, contractor;' complaining about removing of gravel, but as neither of them were present the matter was allowed to drop. It was moved by Mr Booth and seconded by Mr H. R. Bunny that the Hawkes Bay County Council be informed that this Board is fully aware of the injustice of the action of the Property Tax Department and sympathise with the Council, but at the same time they do not pledge themselves to go into any litigation on the subject. It was moved by Mr Booth and seconded by Mr H. R. Bunny that this Board accede to the request of the Wairarapa West County Council in granting the loan of L4O to be expended on Cartcrton-Glad-Btone road, the same to be refunded to the Board at a future date.
Tenders were received for gravelling, ifec, on Francis' road, and Messrs Reading $ Delhi's was accepted at 35s per ohain.
It was resolved that the specifications re bridle track from Wainuipru to Flat Point be altered, and that fresh tenders be called. It was resolved that tenders be'called for works on the following roadß,' viz., Koljotaii, BrQqkJyn, Waterson's/ and Hughe?', to tl)e extent of funds available. Mr Parker was authorised to procure the services of the roadman (Mr Derrick), to do some repairs on Park road. It was resolved that Mr King be employed to survey and lay off some roads for the Board.
It was moved by Mr Gallon and seconded by Mr Dorset that Mr T. Price be requested to remove his fence off the line of road within fourteen days. Accounts to the amount of L3C3 8s 9d were passed for payment.
A rate of three-farthings in the £ was struck for the ensuing year, payable in one sum, on or before the Ist May, 1885 ; also a three-farthing Waiohine river rate .was struck, payable at the same time. The meeting terminated after the Wardens had signed the rate book.
