Lieutenant Wilton, of the Masterton Rifles, lias sent in the resignation of his commission. A little dog got shut up in the Catholic Church at Greytown, about ten days ago, and when the doors were opened yesterday morning, it was found to liavo eaten some of the candles that had been loft out, and torn the drapery of the altar into shreds. The unfortunate animal was still alive, but, as might be imagined,'in a very pitiable condition. Messrs Foley and Berkley give their fourth popular Monday evening entertainment at the Theatre Royal this ovening. A special and attractive programme has been prepared, comprising an Ethiopian Minstrel combination, an original pot pourri, and various other items that are likely to contribute to the amusement of the audience, A large number of horse owners and bookmakers arrived in Masterton on Saturday, from Napier, where they had attended the Autumn races. Theylefk again by the afternoon-train for Wellington.
