Mr McOardlo seconded the motion, Ho thought the Committee had dealt very fairly with tho question and In a manner calculated to bring about settlemont, In the Wairarapa the want of land for settlement had been felt for many years; and the deterrent had been the want of funds to open up the land. In respect to the Masterton Special Settlement Association he sauj no one had been shut out, and anyone who wished mjglyfc join, and l)q maintained that residents qf ; a flsjmcfc'had the first right to land in that district. The motion was put and carried, A memorandum was roqolved from the Crown Lahdß Office in answer to an application from the Board, stating that the names of persons forming special settlement associations had not in all cases been forwarded to the Government. The chairman laid before the Board a mernojanijum, frqn] the Crown Lanc|s Office relative to the advertising difficulty. It was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the Commissioner, It was deoldod on the motion of Mr McCardle, to bring down a scheme for throwing open all imsold surveyed sections in the Forty-Mile Bush, It was also resolved, on the motion of Mr McCardle, that the Government be requested to push on the survey of the railway line in North ■' Pahiatua to enable the Road Board to deal with the Government township reserve.
Leave of absence from three meetings TO granted to Mr G. Beesham. Mr Beetham moved tfeafc the following recommendations bo made to the Government as to the disposal of tho £I6OO for Kaiwhatu roads:—£4oo for purchasing site for shipping shed, and completing road communication from Kaiwhatu to Urifci; £3OO to open up the road from Wainuioru to the coast j £BOO to open up the Kaiwhatu valley with roadß. The first and third items to be under the control of the Wairarapa East County Coun^
cil or the Masterton highway board. Tlie second item to be under the control of the Carterton-Taratahi Board or the East County Council. This was agreed to, the Chairman dissenting. The Board then rose.
