The Wairarapa Daily. FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 1885. THE GAS MEETING.

The public meeting on the gas question held last evening was a satisfactory ono. Three-fourths of those who attended it were in favor of the Borough undertaking the work, and though at first tho meeting rambled somewhat, it eventually rosultetl in both sides of the question being fairly placed before the ratepayers and sufficient information being accorded to enabled an intelligent vote to bo given. For the last 1 seven yoars municipal matters in Masterton have been somewhat stagnant, and if thoy make a little plunge now over gas it will bo all the better for the town, It is quite time that Mastorton,'' moved on," A Mr Wooraoora may cling to its coat tail and endeavor to hold it back, but if tho burgesses allow small hindrances of this kind to defeat their projects for the advancement of the town there is but little hope for Masterton. Thanks aro due to the companies which have at length roused Mastorton to take a poll on the gas question, If the poll be earned, and thiß is a task that will not be lightly accomplished, we feel certain that the Borough of Masterton will never have reason to regrot that it introduced gas into the town. But'if the poll be lost'wo hopo no further obstacle will be placed in the way of a private company supplying the'town.
