WAR IN THE SOUDAN.

The despatches received by the Government from General Gordon has been published. The last is dated December 14th, and shows that Khartoum was then reduced to its last extremity ; fighting was going on day and night, and the city wa3 besieged by rebels on three sides, Gordon concluded his letter with the words "Come quickly." His despatches dated November 4th, received on the 14th, said he could hold out easily for forty days, but afterwards there would be difficulty. He added there wore five Btoamers at Meteinneh waiting Wolseley's orders.
Sydney, Tuesday. Tho Patriotic Pund now amounts to £30,000, Objections have been urged aB to the legality of the action of the Government in despatching the New South Wales troops to the Soudan, and a petition has been sent to tho Governor against the expedition being prepared,
