[United Press Association.] DECIDED MURDER Auckland, Friday. A settler at Pokeno, named Robert Prendergaat shot his wife through the heart in their house. After committing the crime he went to Mercer and got drunk and told several people he had shot his wife. He was not believed as he had made other incoherent statements and was in the lunatic asylum two years The murder was committed about midday and was not discovered till evening when two sons went home sajl found the dead body of their mother on the kitchen floor. Prendergast waa arrested last night and naid, "Oh yea, I done it. You wi get the pistol on the shelf. A lai]ge hone-pistol which had been recently discharged was found as stated. Accused and his victim are both about sixty years of age. * Christchttrch, This Day. Mr H. R. Cheviot addressed his constituents at Amberly last night, and received a vote of confidence. He generally approves of Vogel'a policy.
