Sir,—l have the honor to report to you on the works of the Alfredton and Masterton Road Districts as follows:—■ Alfredton District road.—The Overseer, who has examined the worts uhder.contract to' : Mr Girdwood, reports'them as satisfactorily completed, ...1 will therefore recommend "that 'they be;;.takeh : 'oyer.on behalf 6i the- Alfredton' Road-' Board. The completion of this contractterminates the earthworks for which the loan was taken up under the Roads and' Bridges Construction Act by the Alfredton settlers interested in the construction of the Alfredton district road. The construction of the bridges over the crossings of the' various creeks intersecting the line is at present proceeding, and a considerable portion of the material is delivered at the site of the works. J£ will, I think, be desirable to fix a'date upon which these works are to be finished as tlio original contract time has till now been indefinitely extended since last season, owing to, the impracticability of getting the work| gut qi hand, by the date originally fixed'.'
