WAR IN THE SOUDAN.

He was betrayed by Faragh Pasha, commander of his Soudanese troops. Captain Lord C. Beresford succeeded in rescuing: Sir -Charles Wilson after a .sharp action with the fort bolow the Shabukli Cataract, during which a shot r6m the fort penetfclted the boiler of the steanler under his' command, but which was successfully repaired under fire. London,' February 11. Telegrams from the Soudan state that refugees from Khartoum report that Faragh Pasha opened the gates of Khartoum to the Mahdites on January 20th, and that Gordon rushing out of the palace to ascertain the cause of the commotion was slain on the threshold. Telegrams also state that nearly the whole (and not merely a quarter) of Gordon's adherents and their families were massacred. , .
London, 10th February. It is reported at Gubat that General Gordon was killed on the morning of the 27th January. London, February 10. v It is currently reported here to-day .that' General Gordon was. stabbed while the fighting was proceeding before the capture of Khartoum, and that, he. subsequently died of his wound. It is also stated that fully one-fourth pf General Gordon's adherents were massacred by the Mahdites, and that amongst the Jatter's • victims were a number of women and children. ,
