Telegrams from the Soudan state that refugees from Khartoum report that Faragh Pasha opened the gates of Khartoum to the Mahdites on January 20th, and that Gordon rushing out of the palace to ascertain the cause of the commotion was slain on the threshold. Telegrams also state that nearly the whole (and not merely a quarter) of Gordon's adherents and their families were massacred. , .
