DRAGON FLIES AND GUM TREES.
An exchange says:—"The eucalyptus tree, has hitherto been in f&YQW for its pti-maiarial properties," whick are' especially fpjjjsj ra Australia, where it is pne .of of ft |a,Bj however, .lately losi favor in the province .of San-Pedro, Brazil, from tlje belief tl)at it stimulates the generation of ous dragon-fly, .which attacks ali living creatures, to whom ita ating la •fatal within a few minutes, The destruction of all. eucalyptus trees has, therefore, been, ordered in San Pedro." If there was such a thing as a stinging dragon-fly, which we. do not believe, it could scarcely, employ its s.fcjng better than in lesseningthe superfluity -of fpols which afflict the/ world; and if it-be true fcjiafc the authorities of San Pedro have issued any such edict as that stated for.the destruction of eucalyptus trees, the dragon-fly with the fatal Bting would not much diminish the total sum of human intelligence" if it mortally stung every member of such a Gotliamite community as that of San Pedro.
