Mr G. F. Mansell one.of theMasterton team now in Dunedin writes to a friend in Masterton as follows :

Dunedin, January 28,

Just a line to let you know that I got here quite safe after a' long and tedious journey, We left Wellington on Friday I for Lyttelton and arrived there on Saturday morning at half-past six after a splendid passage'across the Straits,'the journey taking.about seventeen hours. We then took train at a quarter to (seven for Christehui'ch, and after having breakfast we left at oighfc o'clock for Dunedin, arriving, there at a quarter to eight on Saturday night (a distance of 240 miles) yery tired. We then had tea and the Dunedin men showed us round the town, On Sunday m had a .church parade of firemen in the morning, and in the afternoon we'all went to"Port Chalmers by Special Train, we were entertained by the' firemen of that place, On Monday morning we ware out practising at four o'clock with hose reel and engine, and got on very well, and after breakfast wje all went to Mosgiel and inspected the . woollen factory, by a special train laid on especially for our convenience. Returning to Dunedin at five o'clock, after having spent a very pleasant day, The weather was simply delightful up to six o'clock last night, when, it commenced to rain, and it has been rajnpg ■ in.. torrents' over since, and it will make it yery. had/ for the dompe-tition'to-morrow. 'We"' have been out all tho morning till dinner time with the engine, and reel and got drenched to the skin. There are how about 250' firemen here, and to-night there will be a grand torchlight procession', but if it continues to rain it will spoil the whole thing, Ido not think that I shall he. able to leave here before Monday next, and in that. case I shall not be home before Thursday. We are kept going from morning til) night, When we are not practising, the people are showing us about, ''•'• It iB quite pr 4 work. '• -
