[United Press Association.] Auckland, TltisDay. Arrived, Arawata, from Fiji, Governor Devoeux and wifo and. family &e passengers. . News unimportant. Greymouth, This Day. The Cobden bridge looks a sad wreck now. Two cylinders on tho Cobden side have disappeared' and' the.'greate'r portion • of the temporary woodwork has vanished with the roadway on top.- Tho value of the two cylinders alone was gIGOO. The total loss is said 'to be-£3OOO.- Tho flood is abating. One effect of yesterday's flood was to sweep away the wreck of the Star of the South which encroached seriously upon the fair way of,entrance to the river. 'i^ 1 12 o'clock last_ evening she disappeared breaking the .rope and several hempen hausers. . According to all appearances she has been swept out to sea clear of channel as there was large volumns of water going down. No doubt sowings will bo taken to'ascertain wheiHßthe wreck still remains to block the clunmel. She was lying intact last evening. when the flood was on. She was the cause of a lot of stonework being shifted when she broke away.
