The Opaki Club had arranged 16 play a team of the Tradesmen's Club on Saturday afternoon, but at the last momiftt the latter club disappointed tho countrymen, and rather than they should not have a ' game the Masterton club got a 'scrateh team together to do battle with them. Wickets were pitched jbout two.o'clock'"' and a very pleasant game resulted in a win for the Mastertoniaris by (i 6 runs. Messrs McKenzie and G. Welch captained the teams, while Messrfc Ford and Fitton kindly acted as umpires, ■' wou the toss, and as thewhole'of the team was not on the - -ground lie-elected to bat, it being decided to draw stumps at 7 o'clock. The first innings of Masterton closed'for 69, and the second for 77. In their'firat innings the Opaki men put together 67, but in their second they did not do so well, only getting 33, thus leaving their opponents victors by 50 runs. For J£asterton McKenzie 28; Sleeman 25, 18, and Hathaway 15, were the' contributors, while for the. viaitora, J. Welch 36, and G< Welch 10, did- most of the scoring, Perry, McKenzie, and Hathaway bowled for Maatertoir, and 0. Weloh, R. Welch, Boulcott, and G. Day handled the leather for the Opaki, During the second innings of the countrymen, their captain received two. nasty blows from Perry, and tho latter had to be takon off, tho pitch proving too dangerous for. fast bowling as owing to the short notice, the home team had not been able to prepare a decent wicket.
