REVOLTING ATROCITY.
The following revolting atrocity occpd recently:-" An Assamese and his ivife had been living happily together for some years, when the former beoame enamoured of a young girl, and in course of time, according to the custom of the: country, married her, Dissensions and strife arose a? a matter of course, and the first wife, terribly jealous, determined to be revenged on them both. She accordingly one day remained at home to cook the food, while the others in the fields engaged in their rice cultivation. A savoury dish of. ouny and rice awaited them on their return, and it was not until they had appeased their appetites that they learned, to their, horror, that the first wife had murdered her youngest" child and served up a portion of its flesh for them to eat.
