WASTE LANDS BOARD.
At a meeting of the above, held yesterday morning, there were present: Commissioners J. W. A. Marchant (chairman), Bunny, Beetham, Mason olid' McCardle.
The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed, the schedule of land sold since last meeting of the Board was read and approved, The Chairman laid before the Board a statement of the prices obtained for the lands sold. at Wellington on 11th Dec., and at Masterton on the 16th aud 18th Dec., on deferred payment and for cash, and reported that 18 of the sections offered tor sale at auction on the 18th inst. were unsold Besolved, That they should not be advertised as open for sale in 30 days, but be held over with a view of offering thorn with othert as soon as possible, on the leasehold and deferred payment systems. - •
In response to Mr D. Brook's request for assistance in obtaining a crossing over the railway line, to enable hira to have access to his sections in Kopuranga, it was resolved to forward the letter to the Government, with a strong recommendation that thorequest should be agreed to.
Tho Chairman read a reply from the Under-Secretary for Crown' Lands to the effect that authority of Parliament would be necessary to provide, the cost of members of Land Boards visiting the the various localities in tho Wellington District. ■
In reply to an application from Mr Poison for permission to purchase a small portion of the Paralieke Block, adjoining his property, for a fencing boundary, it was resolved to obtain a report as to how this would affect the purchase of Crown lands, adjacent, Mr Polsen to pay the cost ot survey, if the request was granted; also,tljat the land should'be pi|t up to cqnjpetition with other sections in the block when the roads are rofule.
Following on a report from Mr R. P. Greville, assistant surveyor, it was resolvedjj that a section of the main road, south of Eketahuna, be added to tho adjoining sections, Nos 1 to 0, after the necessary survey lwd been made. Tho land being already sold, no action was taken with regard to a complaint by Mr P. Menken ot the price fixed by the Land Board. Three deferred payment settlers in arrear with their payments were ordered to bo instructed. to pay up or capitaliso.
Letters were read from tho Chairman of the School Commissioners re Education Reserves, and fron the clerk to the Wairarapa East County Council re. repairs on the Pahiatua, Hawera, and Central Mangaone roads, previously damaged by floods, •
It was resolved to forward to the Government the resolution passed by Board a3 to the need for increased Survey staff. In reply'to the Crown Lands Ranger, Mr G. P. Robinson, re monthly inspections, it was resolved to inform him that Government .would be asked go authodsetheappointmeiitof a ranger for tho Wellington District, and to relieve Mr Robertson of his inspection, such Ringer ,to bo: overseer of the works' which are to be carried out by the ;Chief Surveyor. With regard to the Ranger's report on section 61, Blook IX.j Pohingina, it was resolved to grant the transfer asked for by Mr Roofe conditional on the same fulfilling the necessary improvements. The transfer on section 48, Block XIII, Pohingina. from Mr J. P. Whitely to Mr Clement "Watson was approved. Letters from Messrs Andrew Douglas and Burton Boys, the latter pre. sented by Mr Bunny, were ordered to stand over.
Mr Ole Anton Christiansen's application to transfer his section 16, Block IV, Makuri, to Mr Rhodes, was granted subject to the same carryirg out improvements.
MrD. H. Guthrie's application to pay off balance of capitalised value of hia section 1587, Block IX., Ksirauga was granted. ' Mr Bunny read a letter from the Secretary to the Small farm Association at Masterton, as to tho Special Settlement Regulations recently published in the " Gazette," and moved that the letter be forwarded to the Government with a request that the concessions asked for by the Association be granted. Mr Marchant concurred in all points except as to the residence, which he considered should commence afterjtwo years,
Mr Bunny then moved, Ttat before any regulations or rules affecting the administration of the waste lands of the Crown-are gazetted, it is suggested by the Board that a copy of such rules shall be sent to each Waste Lands Board within whose jurisdiction such lands are situated, for the purpose of obtainingtheir opinion on such regulations; and before any block of land -be •"gran.fei*: iinder the regulations of 28^J.oieiltber, ; 1884; to any Assocraf-iori' .ft...00p/ -of the .proposal of anj Association' for such. ; slw¥of;h'nd :£and '.Board vflf • the : -'dls6net in J which ithftM'dis sp'uated.
