' ■ ad desirability of obtaining a steam nYe'engine.-Be'next-Ffe&MMift It:was organised six .arid a half yeM* ago, and amongst; its first members were lawyers, doctors, and all sorts mid conditions of men, But when it came to.bird work a good many of these dropped out, and.for a time there had •■been considerable difficulty in carrying on llio work of the Brigade. Captain Keester.-who followed next, said ho was one of the Hist members of the Brigiidn. He had stuck to it, and would slick to it in the future (Applause) as long as the public of Maslerton bucked . them up, Ho hinted that many little appliances were still required by the Brigade. He would like to see residents who were not prepared to join them as working members, join them as honorary members, attending their meetings and watching tbo working of the brigade. He spoke also of the advantages'-of Fire Brigade competition and trusted that the team about to be sent to Dunedin would not disappoint the expectations of the public'in Maslerton, They might possibly .bring back a prize or two, but they could' not in many' cases' compete with larger brigades possessing better appliances. " ' '■' Fore mini Dixoti. briefiyiioknowledged tne compliments winch i'a'il been paid to the Brigade,. Excepting for lifew months, he had worked in the Brigade since it first started He also inferred to past difficulties when the ■Brigade dropped down'to four or five members- and had to. be worked up again. .He-regarded'competitions as the back 'bone, of the. brigades and proposed.an annual event of this kind for Maslerton. "(A pplaiise.) ' '"■'■'" Briinpjiman Langlcy then briefly acknowledged the- compliment that had L been paid to, him, and expressed his intention ot still remaining an active member of the Brigade.
