INSTALLATION OF MAYOR.

The statutory meeting of tho Borough Council was held of noon today for the purpose of installing the new Mayor into his office, the members present being His Worship the Mayor, and Crs Bacon, Muir, Hessey, Gapper, Johnston, Chamberlain, Williams ami Heron,

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and on the motion of Cr Heron authority was given the Works Committee to procure eogineering skill where necessary.

There being no other' ordinary business, His Worship rose and said that in retiring from the office he had filled with so much pleasure to himself, he considered it his duty to express in most unqualified terms to all the Council his thanks for the constant and unremitting assistance rendered by them to him timing his term of office, During the year there had been no large works undertaken that called for special mention, but the work all through had been fairly well conducted. Several important mat; teia j had ,come before them;'but not in sufficiently advanced state to warrant the Council undertakingthem at this stage,. But he sawifc would be absolutely necessary, at an early-date to undertake these works,... He alluded more'particularly to •sewerage; water supply, and gas, .and :he was glad- on leaving to find the burgesses hiid made such a good selection- in his successor.'; He Iwas confident that any works: undertaken by him would, with tho assistance of his council, be brought to a successful issue. He would again thank his colleagues for their assistance and be now bud much pleasure -in qall-. ing upon Mr'L'aselberg to make the usual declaration,

Mr Caselberg, having complied with requirements ot the Statute, was duly installed into office, the retiring Mayor wishing him every success, The newly installed Mayor expressed his detarniinaeion to do his duty to the best of his ability, and concluded by inviting his colleagues to luncheon, The council then adjourned,
