Branch roads have been formed through the seotions at Dreyer's Rock, Central .Mangaone, Hawera, and Pahiatna, at distances respectively from "Mastwlon of about fourteen' tailei, thirty-one miles, thirty five miles, and forty miles, The Manga, hao seotions are within fourteen miles of the town of Woodville, ■ The Main Trunk Railway from Wellington to Napier is now being constructed to a point about seventeen miles north of Masterton. Sites for railway stations have been seleoted at several points, The whole of the sections are covered with forest, the principal trees being tawa, rimu,hinau, rata, kahihatea. with totara, in places; thp undergrowth is, as arulp, heavy ; the general character of. the soil ta good, and in some places is of first-claes quality, the formation being limestone, clay marl, sand stone, &c. Th'e Country is generally hilly and undulating; but there are large flats as well as broken ground within the area; it is well-watered, and, as the climate ,'ij also very favorable, the land should, when cleared, and brought into cultivation, prove well adapted for pastoral and, to some extent, agricultural purposes. The Ivajwhata Sectjons Jto 5 consist of high hilly land, of fair and inferior quality, coverpd will) light bush, mixed scrub, and manuka, with occasional small open patches!
