The Wairarapa Daily. THURSDAY, DECEMBER 11, 1884. PUKETOI.
OP'X'ate •Puketoi lias' been \ frequently mentioned as'a-locality where a 'largearea otgisd r gro.und is to te"found.and' some people are, beginning to hunger and - thirstr ; after .Puketoi.::. :Last eyening the County.-Settlers Association .ditJGues&d '■■Paketoi : ahd ; rto J dotibt' the .tinie will coma when this fertile region ' will be 'dotted with settlers homesteads, Just at present it appears to us that a Puketoi settlement would be a mistake. We.have not a surplus population for peopling Puketoi and if we could find the men their chances of success for some years would not be very good. Puketoi is too far from a market to be profitably occupied by small settlers at present. When it is better opened up by road or rail it will be time enoughto settle it. In the interim there are more accessible blocks within easy reach of a market which can be settled with advantage, Mr McCardle has intimated his intention of forming a special settlement association in Masterton, and the meeting last evening somewhat forestalled him, This is to be regretted as Mr McOardle undoubtedly possesses the confidence of the men who will form such a settlement and till his views have been made known it is almost premature to arrive at any decision.
