WELLINGTON PRESBYTERY.

The usual quarterly meeting of the Presbytery ol Wellington was held at the Presbyterian Church, Waiheuga, on Wednesday, 26th November. Rev John Stewart, Moderator, (in the chair), Revs C. S.'Ogg( Welling ton), D. Fulton (Masterton), D. Rogers (Hntt), and Messrs McGregor McLean McLeod, and McFarlane, elders, constituted the court. The members- and friends who' were present were entertained to the. usual Presbytery dinner by the Rev Lfr and Mrs Stewart. The court having been duly constituted by the Moderator, the clork (Rev D. Rogers) read the minutes of last .meeting, which were passed and confirmed. . An apology for absence was received from Rbv J. Patterson. The usual rou tine business having been
transacted the resignation of the pastorate of Waihenga by Eev John Stewart was laid before tho meeting, Mr Stowart, in a very feeling manner, stated'his reasons for resigning the charge and took the opportunity of expressing his gratitude to the number of warm friends who had afforded him many evidences of theirattacbmen t.
After considerable discussion wherein the various member expressed, their sincere regret at Mr Stewart's removal from the district, where he had so ably and profitably ministered during the past four years; and expressed warm and hearty wishes for renewed success in the new sphere of usefulness to which he is about to remove, the resignation was accepted and the meeting; adjourned. In the evening, service was held, and the Eev D. Rogers preached an able and eloquent sermon from Romans vi. 13; "Yield yourselves unto God." At the conclusion of this service.the usual Presbyterial visitation and enquiry into' the state of the congregation was held, and at its conclusion the Eev 0. S. Ogg, who conducted the examination •of - Ministers and office bearurs, on behalt on the Presbytery, expressed their satisfaction at the efficient manner', in which the minister discharged his arduous duties, and urged on the congregations of the district greater liberality both towards thev schemes of the church and the support of their pastor. . The Presbytery was then resolved into a conference of the congregation for the purpose of considering- what steps were to be taken for the filling of the . vacancy caused by Mr Stewart's resignation. ■ ' ■ Considerable discussion ensued, in which Revs Stewart, Ogg, Pulton, and Messrs McLean and Boyd took part, It was evident that an ordained clergy, man;.and not' a student should fill the vacancy; and with a view to secure a permaneut pastor it was suggested that at" least .£2OO would need to be promised, since there are at present a number of vacancies in theoburch and very few ministers available for them. Mr Boyd expressed an opinion that Hie sum named could easily be obtained and even £250 were it taken in hand by the members of the church. The benediction being pronounced the meeting closed,
