EDUCATION BOARD.
[Abridged from the N.Z. Times.] The usual monthly meeting of the Education Board was held yesterday morning, all the members being present. A comraittee,conf,isting of the chairman and Messrs Shannon and Beetham, was appointed for the purposo of providing an additional class room for the Masterton School, effecting the necessary repairs to the Te Aro Infant School, and to report on any other work that might bo considered necessary. The applications of Messrs Kay and W. Ford for a bonus were not acceded to. Jn consideration of the long service and the satisfactory work performed by the applicant, an additional £2O was granted to Mrs Jones, of the Carterton School. An increase of £lO, to take effect from tbe time her parents leave the district, was granted to Miss L. i'eist, of the Fernridge School. The Government Insurance Department wrote asking the Secretary to deduct the amo.int of the premiums on a life policy from the salary of one of the teachers. The Board decided that no deductions were to be made on any account, the salaries being paid in full and direct from the office to the teachers, On the motion of Mr Bunny, a bell was ordered to be supplied to the Cross' Creek school, The boundaries of the Belvidere school district, as approved of by the settlers, were confirmed by the Board. It was agreed, on the motion of the Chairman, that tenders for the supply of school furniture and apparatus should be called for annually, In order that the office should havo the usual vacation from Christmas Day until the end of the year, the meeting agreed to adjourn to Wednesday, December 17, instead of the usual day, which would fall on December 31st.
