Angler, is from Towton's own sister, Marchioness, and whoss dam. Coquette, is by Sir Hercules. Claiming cloae relationship to bo many great racehorses it is unnecessary to do more than briefly mentionThat Waimea was full sister to Zoe, winner of two Australian Champion Races, also to Cossack. Bay Middleton, Flora, Io and Nutwith, the latter so well known hi this district as a sire, That Waimea's sire, Sir Hercules, was also sire of The Barb, and Ya radon, the latter for years the premier stalbon of Australasia, who, in his turn, Have us Grand Flanieur, Chester, andscoros of other notables. Towton's sister, Marchioness, won the Bnglißh Oaks, and is tho dam of Fishhook, Rose of Denmark, Angler, and King ol Unbs, the latter is now in the middle Park otud, Canterbury. _ That the Peer, Towton's brother, is the m[°,„ Manuka ' Peeres8 ' Tr °y> audDarcbin, :?l «« istheßire of DucheßS . winnei o. the V.R.C. That Puriri as a racehorse amongst oui very best performers stood quite in the first rank, winning tho Dunedin Derby, beatinf Bribery, Fallacy, Hippocampus, Danebury, Dead Heat, sud Spray, and to quote from the report" having all his field beaten half a mile from home, won hands domi," Onlj Dead H-at would oppose him in the Canterbury St. Leger, which Puriri also wot in a canter, As an index to the high cnarscter Puriri possessed when racing it is only necessary tc stato that he was handicapued as a foui year old to carry the crushing weight of 9st lib in the Canterbury Metropolitan Handicap, 1877,1J miles, and thea started at 2to 1 when Teniplcton, aged, only hadfM 31bs allotted to him, Ariel, Syrs, 9st 81bs, and Foul Play, 3yrs, only carried fist 71bs. Add to Puriii's undoubtedly high credentials for breeding and performances/that he Btands over 1G hands with proportionate sutsfcariCß all through, and owners of biood mares can form a fair estimate of the capabilities of the sire placed at their services for the ensuing season-whether for breeding racehorses, hacks, or carriage horses. CHAWFOKD PWORI'S, dam Peradventure,. through her sire Adventurer, is a great, granddaughter of Emiliuß, whilst Maniac, theg.g.g. damof Peradventure, was Kiddlesworth's granddam. Manganese won the 1000 guinea, and is the granddam of Apology, winner of the Great St. f.eger, better known as " The Parson's Mare," and Agility, another celebrity. When the leading lines of a pedigree are occupied by such sires as Newminster-the sire of Hermit, through the success of his stock styled " The sire of tin Age"-Adventurer, Orlando, Touchstone, Stockwell, The Baron, Irish Birdcatoher; and on the dam's side gives .Manganese, Moonbeam, Palma, Franceaea, Beeswing, Lady Mary, Splitvote, Pooahontas, and Echidna, the question to determine is, could there possibly be a grander combination of all that time has over and over again proved to be excellent, than the breeding of the subject of this notice. The perusal of CRAWFORD PRIORY'S pedigree calls to mind the performances of his brother and Bister, Guesswork and Conjecture. The former won several good races in the Australian Colonies, and at weight for age as a three-year-old in the Champion Race of 1883, got to the end of 3 miles in the wonderful time of smin. 26aeo M many who were present averring that he actually won, the verdict against him being only a short head in the great Commotion's favor, Conjecture recontly at Adolaide ran second for the £2,000 Cup, beating everything opposed to her but Malta. She afterwards at auotion realised a thousand guineas, Guesswork going to the same purchaser for eleven hundred guineas. Peradventure's four foals byGantt Forward were sold for two thousand bix hundred and thirty guineas, an average of over six hundred and fifty guineas each which would have been largely increased had not Crawford Priory been withdrawn from competition according to arrangement after tho first bid, and it should be remembered that these prices were obtained in one of the Australian colonies where the money invested in thoroughbred horses oan be counted by hundreds of thousands sterling. Owing to accident when a yearling, Crawford Priory was not trained. He was used for one season as a'aire, and his stock promise well. As CRAWFORD PRIORY is nut likely to be more than ono season in the Wairarapa, breeders are invited to take advantage of the presence amongst them ol a sire of the very highest class.
