See Now Zealand or English Stud Book for Towton or Waimea's ancestors. Such is the breeding of a direct descendant of one of the moat successful thoroughbred families of modern times, As the dam of Manuka, Toi- Toi, Harakeke, Totara, Eenga, Papapa, Waimii, Kauri, Waiiti, Kama Ruma, and Puriri, old Waimea, has indeed left an imperishable name, and it would take a volume to recount the victories gaiued by the progeny of the old mare. The mention of Puriri's ancestors will recall to breeders the victories iu this Colony of Manuka, Peeress, Korari, Kakapo, Lowlands, Papapa, Lacenfeed, Songster, Tam- ; burini, and a lioat of others, whilst in Victoria and New South Wales, the excel-' knee of the Melbourne-Sir Hercules' cross shone out iu Progress, whose sire, Angler,-is from Towton's own sister, Marchkneas, and whos? dam, Coquette, ia by SirHeroules. Claiming dose relationship to ao many great racehorses it is unnecessary to <Jo more than briefly mentionThat Waimea was full sister to Zoe, winner ol two Australian Champion Raoen, alio to Costaok. Bay Middleton, Flora, lo and Nutwith, the latter so well known in this dhtriot an a lire. As an index to the high c.iaraoter Puriri possessed wheu racing it ib only neoeßsary to state that he was handicapped as a four year old to carry tho crushing weight of 9st lib m the Canterbury Metropolitan Handioap, 1877,1J miles, and thea started at 2to 1 when Templeton, aged,, only had H 31bs allotted to him, Ariel, fjyrs, 9st 81bs, and Foul Play, 3yrs, only carried 6st 71bs, Add to Puriii's undoubtedly high credentials for breeding and performances, that he stands over 1G hands with proportionate Bukstancs all through, and owners of biood Biares can form a fair estimate of the capabilities of the sire placed at their services for the ensuing season--whether for breediug racehorses, hacks, or carriage horses.
