Only Dead H-at would oppose him in the Canterbury St, Leger, which Puriri also won in a canter, As an index to the high cnaraoter Puriri possessed when racing it is only necessary to state that he was handicapned as a four year old to carry the crushing weight of 9st lib in the Canterbury Metropolitan Handicap, 1877,1J miles, and thej started at 21-> 1 when Templeton, aged, only had H 31bs allotted to him, Ariel, syrs, 9st 81bs, and Foul Play, 3yrs, only carried fist 7lbs. _ Add to Puriii's undoubtedly high credentials for breeding and performances, that he stands over 16 hands with proportionate sui-stance all through, and owners of brood mares can form a fair estimate of the capabilities of the sire placed at their services for the ensuing seas„n -whether for breeding racehorses, hacks, or carriage horses, Puriri has been at the stud three years, and was awarded two first prizes and two champion prizes at Patea, and first prize at Wauganui, <Jso the champion cup for the beßt thoroughbied on the ground.
