Messrs Chas. Pownall & Co,, scriveners, Wellington, report: A considerable jrjfjux of foreign capital has, as we foretold, taken place during the last month for mortgage investment, with the effect of reducing the rate of iuterest fully half per cent, quotations now being from seven to BOven and a half per cent for sums in excess of £SOO, As many borrowers for considerable amounts have been awaiting this opportunity for obtaining cheaper money, there has been a large demand, and several transactions have already been concluded upon these terms. We do not, however, look for much lower rates. The English market ia fast rising in value, the last outside price being 4f, with the bank rate 5 per cent. There is likewise every appearance of new land operations occurring, which will most probably give rise to further extensive speculations, thereby creating a very large demand, and it is necessary we should recollect that, before tho late crisis set in with an ample supply of money offering, the operations were so much m excess thai from 8 to 9 per cent was freely given for it.
NEGLECT IS OFTEN AS FERTILE A CAUSE OF SUFFERING as the disease itself. Human nature, warned as it is by reported examples, is prone to forgot the salutary lessons they inculcate and apt to lose by deferment, the good it may rccieve from prompt and decisive action. When the means a o within our grasp, it is almost sinful to ?llow their escape, and hose who overlook tho virtues of UDOLPHO WOLFE'S SCHIEDAM AROMATIC SCHNAPPS must stand forever self-criminated and reproached,
