To the Editor, Sin,— Kindly allow me to say, re the statement made bj the Chairman on Saturday that I (Mr Reese) gave him to understand that I did not desire to bring under the notice of the Council any charges beyond the ones contained in my lettct. This statement of his is just about as disingenuous as the one he made in his letter of the 17th when evading an answer to a few questions that I asked him personally, when he said "The Committee has been appointed for the very purpose of examining into these questions." At the same time no one knows better than himself that the Committee were appointed to consider whether the Mungapakeha bridge has been built under a regular and proper contract with a bona fide contractor, or otherwise, My own conviction on this matter has never wavered yet, and I have no doubt that when the time comes I will be able to supply good reasons for the statements that I have made. But again on Saturday the Chairman said in haste, mark you,

(lie has not patience to wait until the Oomniitteo meets), re a statement I made, "this assertion*is false," and again " this is also in error," Now, Sir, I do not consider it, fair on the part of the Chairman to cast aspersions of this kind broadcast. They are evidences of a desire on his part to pre-judge, and I submit that I have a claim on him as Chairman to be impartial at least. His affection and esteem for the Engineer is no part of his public duties. I am &c, Alex. .Reese.
