CORRESPONDENCE.

MIKI MIKI REEF.

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—ln your issue of Saturday last paragraph referring to prospecting in, the Miki-Miki district which contains tf number of mis-statements, and as it is advisable that the public should know the facts you will oblige by publishing a few corrections. The prospector who went to Wellington on Saturday (Mr Wright) is not a Christcliurch prospector, having been a resident of Wellington.and Masterton for some years. Messrs Parsons,' Kockel.l,. Bacori, and Donnelly sent down a' quantity of stone in order to have it tested, but they have not yet received a reply, Your remark regarding the quantity sent being insufficient applies to two trials of stone from the slime locality, one small parcel having been forwarded by one of the gentlemen named, and the other by Mr Wright to whom it was given by a member of the party, The reef was discovered nearly six years ago by Messrs D, Donald and Rockell, but they had no test made, nor had any stone been broken out when they revisited the locality, about three weeks ago. I am not in a position' to say whether Mr Wright visited the same npot or not, but as there are several reefs in the neighborhood which may be, exposed in a dozen creeks your conjecture upon the point is of little importance. I am, &c., J.M.R.

THE- RACE COURSE SURVEY (To the Editor.) Sir.--I wish to record my objection to the Masterton llo.ul Board appointing its Engineer to undertake private survey work. The work in question is. the Ma'sterton-Opaki .Race course, which the Engineer to tho Board is laying off to-day. Why not call for tenders if the Jockey Club want the work done cheaply 1 There are two authorised surveyors residing in this district who are able and willing to undertake such work, and I consider the action taken by tiie Road Board and its officer anything but fair to professional men in private practice, and' a most unusual and improper course for any public body to take, i ' I am, &c., Percy C. Frabi, Licensed & Authorised Surveyor.
