Melbourne, October 15, Messrs Goldsborough and Company (Limited) held their second wool auction of the season to-day. The sale was a great success, 3280 bales being offered and 3080 disposed of under the hammer. Good greasy realised to 10|d, and one small lot of superior brought 13|d. Scoured wool realised to 21d. There was a large attendance of buyers, and brisk competition was again experienced. Large catalogues will be submitted hence forward.
Mauritius advices to September 30 are to hand. Under that date Messrs Ireland, Fraser and Co., report as follows of the sugar market:—Clearances during the month—For Christchurch, 100 tons; for Dunodin, 600 tons. Exchange—Sixty days' bank credit on New Zealand, '.6 per cent; on Australia, 17| per cent. Stock of sugar on hand," 19,000 tons. Exports this season to Ne»v Zealand, 1400 tons.
Melbourne, October 15, The Agent and Vernet have been scratched for the Catrlfield Cup. • The following horses have been scratched for the Melbourne Cup :'— Examiner and Troy. The latest betting on the Caulfield Cup is 6 to 1 against Conjeoture, 8 to 1 against Yately, 20 to 1 against Flying Jib.
