Hawkins for the best hack for hill work, amount £B, and from Messrs Moore & Kvull for the bast pure bred Shorthorn heifer, calved since 1871, amount £2 2s, Mr J. Steward has eiven notice of his intention to ask- the Minister bf Defence. (1), whether he will platfe on the Supplementary Estimates a 'farther sum for volunteer prizes) (2) whether he will arrange that one-half of the annual vote shall be; allocated ,to the- volunteers' of each island, the champion belts to be' competed for at some central place every third year. A well attended meeting of those interested in forming a cricket club on the Upper Plain was bold at Mr- G, Chamberlain's on Monday eventDg, when the following officers wete elected: — President; Mr F, Harrison; VicePresidents, Messrs T, E. A complaint was made that a patient had been sent into the hospital from a house in whjoh diptheria was prevalent, that Dr Beard, who had signed the certificate, had been requested to explain to the oommittee his reasons for so doing, but that the explanation requested had not been supplied. It was resolved that till the explanation was supplied the committee would withdraw Dr Beard's authority to sign admission certificates, It also was reported that a patient left the institution in May last without paying the usual fees. It was decided to sue him for the amount as it was known that he was in a position to defray them.
