CORRESPONDENCE
MR REESE AND THE COUNTY COUNCIL. (To the Editor.) Sir,—My attention has just been called to Mr Reese's letter of the Bth inst., and as I have been a contractor myself under the Council, and am an Irishman as well, I feel that Mr Reese's reference to the Irish as not daring to trust themselves or their interests under the Council, is uncalled for and uutrue. Mr Reese must have introduced the " injustice" supposed to be done to the Irish as a nation under those contracts for some ulterior purpose of his own, butmyadviceto him. is to let the Irish alone, for they can take care of themselves without any outside help. I speak from experience and unhesitatingly say that I for one (and I think I. may say speaking for many others ot my countrymen) see nothing to call for such a wholesale condemnation of the actions of the Council as is contained in Mr Reese's letter; I am &c , Michael Dowung. Masterton, Oct. 13th, 1884.
