(United Press Association,) Napier, Thursday. The Rev, Father Forest was buried yesterday. The funeral procession was fully a quarter mile long, Christciiurch, Thursday. On Saturday night last during a heavy rain stonn two men, Snowdon and Butterfield, started across country from the Sherwood railway station for home. After going some distance Butterfield missed Snowdon, He searched, but failed to find him, Next morning Snowdon was found dead about half a mile from where Butterfield missed him, Both men had been drinking. Snowden died from con. gestion of the lungs, caused by ex posure. Christciiurch, October 1. The Mayor of Ashburton has written to tho Charitable Aid Board complaining that no provision is made for cases, of real destitution, He states that he ha 3 frequent applications for admission to the Old Men's Home, but it is useless for him to recommend admission, as the home is full, and says, "I feel sorry and ashamed to tell the destitute deserving poor that nothing can be done for them." Mr March reports the home in a most wretched condition, not, at all adapted to the purposes for which it is now applied. The Board resolved to forward the correspondence to the Government.
