CARTERTON TOWN BOARD.
Tub ordinary meeting of the Carterton ' Town Board was held in tho Council Chambers, Carterton, on Monday afternoon, Present-Messrs R. Fairbrother. (chairman), W. Parker, (Mister, Vickerstaff, and Campbell. The minutes of the former meeting were read and confirmed. ■ The treasurer's report was read and reported a credit balanco of £lO6 5s 3d, including payment from County Council of £lO tor repairs done to the main road, lieoeipls since last meeting amounted to £l7 4s Bd. Account passed for payment, £24 3s 4d, due to the County Council for secretary, use of chambers, Ac, The inspector wished to bring under the consideration of the Board that they should allow persons reported for allowing their chimneys to catch fire to pay a line instead of being summoned. The Chairman said they had no jurisdiction, ■L Letter were read from Mr GomixiMr son, asking Beard to request Mr G. Gardner to remove timber from Tyne street. The Inspector reported that he had seen"Mr Gardner, who told him that the nuisance was removed, It was moved by Mr Fail-brother, and seconded by Mr Campbell, That the Government be applied to, asking them to furnish the Board with title to the Town Reserve, and the public road leading to it. This to be a test question, The inspector asked if, in the event of the Jfii-u Brigade beins re-organised, the Board would be willing to allow the fines accruing from fires, Ac, to go to the Brigade, '; Mr Vickerstaff. moved, That Lincoln road bo opeued'for traffic at once. The Chairman pointed out that the expense would baye to be shared by one of the Wards (No. 6) in the Tara-tahi-C'arterton Highway Board, and he was informed that No. 6 Ward had no funds, If Mr Yickerstaff would his resolution that the worker shou-d be done when Uncovering in of the ditch on main road completed, he (the chairman) woulclsecond r This Mr Vickerstaff was do, and the motion was carried.
