WASTE LANDS BOARD.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Waste Lands Boaid was held yesterday morning, Mr W. A. Marcbant, Acting Committee,,, of .Grown Lands, occupying the chair. There were present Messrs T. Mason, George Beetham, M.H.R,, and Henry Bunny, The minutes of tlio previous meeting being road and confirmed, the Chairman reported that no land had been sold since the last meeting of the Board, An application from Mr Kummer, for a fresh grant to be issued in his favor for land ..he had applied for in Kaitohatu was not granted, as the Chairman considered there was no power under which the Board could accede to Mr Kummer's request, It was lesolved to inform Mr Kummer of this, and to add that the original promise made to him would be adhered to, viz,, to add the value of his improvements on the Crown lands adjoining his property to the price of those lands when sold, Mr Hales' request to purchase certain lands, it excluded from Mr Kummer's grant, which was again brought before the ■Board, was, also refused. A letter was read from Mr Fred Moore of Glenbum asking the Board to allow him to purchase a portion of Crown lands adjoining his run, to enabling him to get a fencing line, The Chairman pointed out that the land in question was part of that applied for by Mr Hales, and it was resolved to inform Mr Moore that, if Mr Hales consentod to this piece being taken, and Mr Moore agreed to pay the cost of survey, the piece of laud could be put up as a separate section. An application was received from Mr J. Carrel to capitalise future instalments on his deferredpayment section 1568, Block X,, Kairahga, and a similar one from Mr F. Von Rcdin for his deferredpayment section, Block X,, Mangaone, The applications were granted. A letter was read from Mr Gillespie applying to the same effect, but it was resolved to inform him that he must pay up one instalment and capitalise. The Chairmau road a letter from the Crown lauds ranger, reporting that totara was being cut by settlers on the Tiranmea River and Mangaone Block, A letter was read from Mr J. McMillan, a deferred payment selector in Mangaone Block, regarding his unpaid instalments; the matter was allowed to stand over until the next meeting. The Chairman then laid before the board the report of tho Crown lands ranger on his inspection ot deferred payment sections, and stated that he bad warned all those who were in arrear with their improvements that they must have them completed at once. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Robinson for his valuable report, expressing the pleasure of the board at the satisfactory state of affairs with the deferred payment selectors. A letter was read from Mr R. R. Mere dith, of Whareama, regarding the necessity of his obtaining a fencing line for his sections 680,682, and 686. It was resolved to appoint a ranger or surveyor to report as to how far the granting, ot Mr Meredith's request would affect the sale of adjacent Crown lands. A letter was read from Messrs Cash and Esau, solicitors, Marton, stating Messrs Beckett and Hammond and Dick's claim to Rangitira Block. The matter was allowed to stand.over until positive proof is obtained of the ownership of the land. An application was received from Mr Job Bassett to purchase some unsurveyed Crown lands in Waipoua. It was resolved to have the adjaceut land surveyed as soon as the Chief Surveyor could attend to the matter. An application was received from Mr J. S. Mansfield for leave to reside away from his deferred • payment section on account of his health. It was resolved not to press the residence question at present, Messrs Williams and Beetham's application to be allowed to cut totara posts on Crown land adjoining their Pakowai property was declined. The Chairman brought before the board his report on the Crown lands available for sale in various districts. After some discussion, it was finally determined that the chief surveyor should prepare lithographed plans for Mangaone, Kopuaranga and Pahiatua, with all iuformation as to sections, by the next meeting. McOardle asked the board whether they would be willing to authorise the payment of sums of money from deferred payment thirds due onTuhiatua ;Block, The board resolved that they would favorably consider that matter when • properjy applied for. It was then, on the suggestion on Mr Beetham, resolved that' l the chairman should communicate with'the Chairman of the School Commissioners ro •'dealing with the Education Reserves under the Act 1883, sections 53 to 57 included'' .The meeting then adjourned.
