TINUI.
(From our own correspondent^ The Weather. Heavy rain sat in oa Friday last from the S.E.i. continuing with but slight intermission till Sunday evening, resulting iu the rivers and creeks rising very rapidly, and. to a height not exceeded during the pa.it winter. Fortunately, the lambing season had hut barely commenced, or the lobs to sheepownero would have been eerious. Shearing, On several stations fat Bheep are being shorn in readiness for the market, but the regular.business will not commence until somewhat, later. The Mataikuna, Akiteo, and Ohnnga sheds, it is stated, start about the Ist October. At Whareama the work will be probably delayed until November. The Tinui Hoiiit, It iB reported that this renowned hostelry has been purchased by that popular hostess Mrs Owen from Messrs Nathan & (Jo, The prico has not transpired, but it is stated as satisfactory to both vendors and purchaser. Just at present this hotel i 6 the home of numerous rabbit poisoners who are enjoying themselves in truly up-country fashion. Labor, : From llitt uuLubei of swaggers perambui latin? the district, it is pretty evident times are hard somewhere. Numbers of men have, no doubt, flocked hero to obtain work rabbit poisoning, and, having been discharged, are waiting shcariug. Shearors aeom also very plentiful. The Whakeama Eiver, It is repotted that the.oiUorprißim> linn of Murray, Roberts.&.Co. are making overtures to settlers in the Lower Whareama with the object of obtaining. a ateamor to trade regularly into the river. Should success attend the effort, there is nothing that would advance the general prosperity of the district oo much, Tinui-Eketahuna Road. Dire complaints are being made by residents at the Tinui end of this road that the County Council does not moial portions of it. This road is in very bad order, mainly occasioned by the uuusual amount of traffic to Aunedale in the winter. Until the Government devise 6ome means to giro local bodies sufficient funds, it is highly probable this and all other roads here, will remain uwneialled for many years. Tlir ordinary rates are insufficient to maintain, let alone form and construct roads. The Black Hill Road,
The Road Board have at last decided to do some very necessary work on this line. It is stated that Messrs Elder &Co intend to shut this road up us soon as the Board commences work. It is high time thequesuou of the legal right to it was settled.
