The Wairarapa Daily. SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 1884.
We understand that it is extremely probable that the railway, north of Masterton, will be allowed to terminate at the Kopuamugu contract instead of being continued to Woodville. Considerable pressure is now being; brought to bear on the Minister of Public Works, to substitute the West Coast and Gorge Railways for the MastertonWoodville lino as the Main Trunk Railway of the North Island. A Wellington and Napier ring is working to attain this object, and, it. may be taken for granted, that the Wairarapa interests will be sacrificed by a Ministry which is hard up for votes, This is a question which is of vital importance to the whole district. We consider that the County Chairman should convene a public meeting to discuss it. If we are to be robbed of the through line which has beet) on the schedule for years, let it not be from a want of vigilance on our own part.
