A rather long debate took place in the House last evening on the question whether or not the the railway enployfo —notably those on the Wellington-Mas-terton line—should have their - wageß ; " docked" f or their holidays, This had originally been brought up by Mr Fitzherbert, the member for the Hutt although last e'venine it was introduced by Mr Levestam. The result of the debate was that ah amendment to the
effect that, in the opinion of the House, no reduction should be made in the pay of railway and. other Government employes for statutory holidays: Messrs Mills and Cable, of the Lion Foundry, have just puccessfullp completed the casting of 1 a bell for the Maaterton Fire Brigade, weighting 3| cwts. The bell, which has been cast without a flaw or air hole, is in G, an' active abbve the bit; bell which strikes the hour in the tower of the Post Office.
