GREYTOWN BORONGH COUNCIL.

The usual monthly meeting of the Greytown Borough Council took place in the Council Chambers on Monday night. " Present—His Worship the Mayor, and Crs Yarnham, Loasby, St. George, Jones, Kimberley, Beard, Gallagher, and H. Udy, jun.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read from the Greytown Volunteer Fire Brigade, applying for new hose. On the motion of Cr Loasby, seconded by Cr TJdy, the clerk was' instructed to write to the brigade asking what sort of hose they required, and the cost of same.

Prom Property Tax Department, asking for returns of borough property. .

Cr Loasby presented a petition on behalf of the residents of Pahunui and Pawhatu asking that the road be opened from the termination' of the present public road and leading to the Papawai road, and to bridge the creek.

After some discussion, Cr Loasby proposed and Cr St George seconded— That the request of the petitioners be acceded to.

A long discussion took place on the subject, in which nearly all the Crs took part, when the following amendment was moved by His Worship the the Mayor, seconded by Cr . Yarnham, and carried—That the Clerk be instructed to write to the owners of Property through which the road was to removo the fences which obstruct the road, and that the Overseer report at next meeting the best means of having the road opened up. Cr Jones applied to tne Council for permission to erect a gate on the river bed. It being out of the Borough boundary he was referred to the County Council, The report of the Finance Committee was adopted on the motion of Cr Varnham, seconded by Cr Gallagher, showing a bank overdraft of £66 Is Bd. Rates collected during the month were .£l9 16s ; license fees 10a; poundage fees £2145,. Accounts amounting to £lB 9s 4d were passed for payment. Proposed by Cr Gallagher, 'seconded, by Cr Kimberley, that the Works Committee's report as read be adopted. The following motion wa3 tabled by Cr Gallagher: " That this Council take over the continuation of Great Frederick, Leonard, and Kempton streets."
