FOOTBALL.

The famous match betwesn the printers and their imps and a combined team of butchers, bakers, blacksmiths, and wheelwrights, cameoffin Messrs Loader and Hawke's paddock, Bannister-street, yesterday afternoon, and, after a wellcontested game, resulted in favor of the printers by a try to nil. Mr Wickerson captained the combined team, while Mr W. McKenzie acted in like capacity for the printers, Messrs Harvey and Bethune officiating as umpires. Two spells ot twenty miautes were played. Wickerson won the toss and elected to play with the wind. Shortly after four o'clock the ball was kicked off and the type-snatohers at once took the leather into their opponents territory, where it remained the greater part of the spell. Just before half-time the printers worked the oval up to their opponents goal line, where Foy, instead of forcing down, attempted to get the ball out, but Hawke getting possession made a good run in and secured the coveted score for the printers. McKenzio took the place, but only a poster resulted, No score was made during the second spell, though the printers had all the best of it, forcing their opponents down several times and being within an aoe of sooring on two or three occasions, The ohief feature of the match was the play of the three small half backs for • the printers, S Minifie, A, Gardner, and J. Baumber j their kicking and tackling being really splendid. They proved simply invincible, the full back not having a collar throughout the game. The way in which they brought down their biggest and strongest opponents was loudly applauded by the onlookers and rather astonished some of the opposition team, Among the boys forward, Blinkhorne and Richards played a fine game, For the combined team, Pelling, Wickerson, Ross, Muir, and Ewington played a good game behind, while Wagland, Hunter, Wickens, and in fact all the forwards worked hard. With a better knowledge of the game, Foy would make a very smart player. At the conclusion of the game cheers were exchanged by the rival teams.

Wo hear the Fire Brigade is about to get up a team to meet the winaers.
